Dr. LEE, Hyoung Il was appointed as the 20th Commissioner of Statistics Korea on July 7 2023. Before joining Statistics Korea, Dr. Lee served as Assistant Vice Minister for the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He also worked as Secretary to the President for Economic Policy from 2021 to 2022. He started his career as a government officer in 1993 at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, where he worked for about 30 years. During his career there, he mostly took charge of conducting economic analysis and establishing economic policies.  He also has firsthand job experience regarding international cooperation in the field of economy. In 2015, he worked at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for 3 years as the Senior Economist. He completed his B.A. in Economics at Seoul National University in 1993 and he finished his Ph.D. in Economics at Texas A&M University in America in 2008.
